Carry On Luggage

Hi,

So I'm on a plane again (story of my life this past couple of years), waiting to leave for Brazil this time. It's an old plane, and somehow that seems fitting. There are no personal video screens... whatever will I do? I didn't bring any CDs with me... I actually forgot a few things this trip, like my Brazilian money that I had leftover from last trip here. I wonder if this is the same plane I was on that time? Oh well, at least I got a single seat.

As the mass of people are filing past me once again, I am once again amazed at the amount of carry on luggage people bring onto planes with them. I never seem to become used to this. Flight after flight, people keep amazing me with the luggage they struggle with. Why do they think that travel is so arduous? Clearly, it hasn't occurred to them that if they were only to carry less crap with them onto the planes, they would expend far less energy. It isn't just the weight of the pieces that they're carrying which makes it difficult either: it's also the size and sheer awkwardness of some of these things. First they have to manoeuver them down the aisle, then they have to wrestle with them to get them above their seats in the overhead compartments (because they don't want to give up their leg room). Simply amazing. I am so often dumbstruck, and yet, I should be used to it by now. I don't even know how many flights I've taken in the past couple of years and this bizzarre phenomenon never ceases to amaze me. Oh well, at least I'm consistent.

Now, where is my drink?
Lesle
