Superman Returns Rocks

Buenos Dios,

I am not a movie critic, nor am I a professional film reviewer. However, I am a movie-watcher and thus, feel that I am just as qualified as anyone else to throw my two cents into the ring on this subject. While I was actually slightly dreading the latest in the Superman franchise (since I am a huge Smallville fan and think that Tom Welling makes a fantastic Clark Kent), I must admit that I was completely blown away in the first few minutes of Superman Returns and was an instant convert. The movie is good (okay, I was a little disappointed in Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane: she's just a little too frail to be believable). Of course, I'm a big comic book movie fan, but still; this was definitely worth watching and I'm looking forward to more.

Seriously, I don't want to give anything away, but it's not like the movie hasn't been open for a few weeks, so just look at this:

Who else can catch a big globe that is about to fall down on the innocent citizens of Metropolis and gently lower it to the ground with such finesse and look so cool doing it? No one. But that's not why Superman rocks. Superman is the penultimate superhero (strongest, fastest, he can fly, he's got those amazing eye powers [heat and x-rays] etc) and he's incredibly polite and well-spoken (which as you may know, goes a long way with me), but again, all those cool powers are not what makes Superman the best superhero of all time.

The best thing about Superman is that he really is super human. He is not human: he is better than human. We can argue about how much easier it is for him to be so magnanimous and noble because of his super powers, but the bottom line is that he is the best example of heroism we have been able to come up with and he's not even human.

More to come on this one later folks. Nobility is sorely lacking in humanity these days and the world needs more Superman! So, if you haven't seen it yet, let me know, I'm planning on going again!

Peace out,

I haven't seen it yet either, but if you're looking for a real hero with all of those qualities (except the "super" ones than check out Cinderella Man about James J Braddock.

Superman Returns blows. It was essentially the first movie. They didn't retell all of the early stuff and it is a sequel but it is way too much like the first one. I and agree that Kate Bosworth is no Lois Lane.
